These words and expressions are commonly used in all parts of the Australia country. You may want to refer back to them as you read through this book. While Gin Rummy has a common language in different parts of the country, it unfortunately does not always have cammon rules. You may find discrepancies in the method of play or scoring from one place to another, and should be careful to ask and understand what the rules are before entering a game. Many disagreements arise in games of Gin Rummy since different clubs play by different rules. In my opinion, a standard set of rules should be adopted to eliminate disagreements. Following are rules that were set up for National Tournament Play ... these could easily be adopted by players all over the country. 1. Players shall be matched by drawing for each game unless, in a partnership game, all parties agree to a set match. Also, in a Cap¬tain game, all parties should be willing to accept playing as Captain. In a five person game no one should be granted the option of plaYing on the three man team. 2. Cut for deal at the beginning of each game. Decide whether high or low card deals. Also, decide whether winner or loser deals in following hands. 3. Dealer shuffles cards, non-dealer has the option of reshuffling. Dealer then has the option of reshuffling and the non-dealer must a straight cut. No further shuffling is permitted unless a card is exposed or there is some irregularity in the reshuffling. 4. When turning up the 21st card as the knock card, it should be recorded in plain view of all players. When using a knock deck, the knock card should be in plain view of all players. 5. If a casino player touches the top card of either the deck or the discard pile, he must take the card he has touched. Taking a card from the deck or discard pile and then returning it is absolutely prohibited. 6. If neither player knocks or gins and the 50th card is drawn from the deck, leaving two cards in the stack, both players may have action on the 50th card. Use it in your hand or turn it over in the discard stack and knock. 7. In the event a card is exposed, it shall be placed in the deck, shuffled, and play will continue. 8. Improper Knock or Gin (a) He player makes an improper knock, with his count being higher than the knock card, the hand must then be played open, all 10 cards face up, but does not have to knock when getting below the knock card. He may choose to play for gin or knock at any time. (b) When a player makes an illegal knock with more than the knock card count, the opponent may accept the knock as proper, provided his point count is the same as the knock card, or lower. Example: the knocking point is eight and a player knocks with 10 points, the opponent with eight points or less may accept the knock and get credit for the undercut. (c) When announcing gin or knocking, (d)If a Online Casino player announces he is ginning or knocking, or calls a number and/or starts to lay his run down, he must continue to do so. H his hand is not gin or his knock is not legal, he must play an open hand. The opponent may ask that the cards be spread for proper viewing, but may not touch the cards himself. (f) If a player knocks and turns the wrong card face down on the discard stack, even if it is part of a run, he cannot pick it up. H he is not below the count after his mistake, he must play the hand open.
