Italy, overpowers the tourist as they step into it. The modern Italian life is very well juxtaposed with, the ancient architecture. In the northwest is situated the Maritime Alps. The backbone of the country is Appenines, which runs down most of the length of Italy.They are infact, the largest range. In the Appenines the highest mountain in Italy is called the “Gran Sasso d'Italia” or the “Big Rock of Italy”. Sardinia and Sicily are the largest islands of Italy, with smaller islands of Ischia, Elba, cluster north of Sicily known as “Lipari” and the Capri all situated off, the west coast. On both sides, Italy is surrounded by seas, namely in the western shores the Tyrrhenian, Mediterranean and Ligurian and in the east the Adriatic is present.
